Back Country Skiing

Back country skiing is for those in the pursuit of fresh fallen snow "powder" or snow which has not been touched.

There are several options to access this terrain in the Methven area: outside of a ski resorts boundaries, or single / multi-day trips with snow camping or staying in mountain huts where available. Hazards do exist in the back country so having a guide can be very useful!

The Club Fields

Canterbury "Club Fields" are ski areas operated by small ski clubs for their members, however anyone is welcome.

They aren't intended for the weak hearted, some effort will be required – you won’t see any chairlifts here!
